Lizard kit
Our Lizard eDNA Kit is designed to detect the presence of NZ skinks and other small reptiles by collecting trace DNA left behind as they move through a purpose-built tunnel. Each kit includes pre-sterilised components and nylon wool strips that capture DNA when an animal brushes past them, making it ideal for monitoring cryptic or hard-to-spot species without handling wildlife directly.
To get the best results, place tunnels in areas where lizards are likely to travel—such as along sunny edges, rocky habitats, fence lines, or near known refuges. The tunnel should be set up in the recommended “n” orientation to keep rain out, as moisture can degrade DNA. Always handle the tunnel and strips with clean gloves to avoid contamination, and avoid touching the wool surfaces directly. If baiting, use only a small amount placed between the strips to encourage visits without overwhelming the setup. After retrieval, carefully remove the nylon strips, add the preservative, and keep the container sealed until submission.
BYO filter kit sampling instructions
While we fully recommend using Wilderlab kits to ensure the highest standards of quality, traceability, and affordability, we understand this is not always possible. We do accept samples collected using non-Wilderlab kits.
Wearing the provided gloves, use the sterile tweezers to place filter into the Falcon tube.
Remove the black cap from the small syringe and dispense the entire preservative into the Falcon tube.
Recap the Falcon tube and gently shake to evenly coat the filter with the preservative.
Place sealed Falcon tube back into the same kit bag. Ensure the UID label remains visible. NOTE:
To analyse non-Wilderlab filters, please reach out to us at info@wilderlab.co to speak with our technical team.
Please ensure only 1 filter and associated Falcon tube is placed in each kit bag.
